Congress sweeps municipal elections
ITANAGAR, May 21: The ruling Congress in Arunachal Pradesh has won the Itanagar and Pasighat municipality elections with absolute majority by bagging 21 and 7 seats respectively.

Altogether 102 candidates were in the fray in the civic poll.
The Congress has won in 21 seats (including one unopposed), NCP (4), BJP (3) and one each by Peoples Party of Arunachal and Independent in the Itanagar municipal poll, while the party in power bagged 7 (including two uncontested) in Pasighat municipal election followed by BJP (2) and three Independents, State Election Commissioner (SEC) K D Singh said today.
The Congress has fielded 34 candidates (excluding three unopposed), while opposition BJP (29) followed by Peoples Party of Arunachal (12), NCP (10) besides 14 Independent candidates.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were used for the municipal elections.
Meanwhile, the State Election Commissioner has said that the detailed results of Panchayat election would be available only tomorrow after compilation of the results from each districts. However, according to the results available, the Congress won majority of the seats, he said.
DIPROs add: In Upper Siang, Congress captured five Zilla Parishad seats out of six seats declared while Independent candidate won the Yingkiong seat. Counting was going on for Geku ZP seat till filing of this report.

BJP accepts people’s verdict, alleges abnormalities
While accepting the defeat gracefully, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Arunachal Pradesh said that the saffron party in the state despite receiving a good response from the people during campaigning had to finally bow down to the ‘paise’ and ‘power’ which played a dominating role.
Alleging proxy voting in some places and possible EVMs tempering, BJP further claimed misuse of Govt machinery by the ruling Congress Govt during election in favor of their contesting candidates. The party, however, promised to show better performance in coming Assembly and Parliament election in 2014.
AAPSU deplores eviction drive by Assam officials, demands police outpost
ITANAGAR, May 21: The members of All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today visited Digalmukh village under East Kameng district where Assam forest officials along with police personnel had carried out eviction inside Arunachal territory yesterday. The AAPSU team comprised of General Secretary Biru Nasi, Happy Toko (VP Protocol), Suraj Tayam (Finance Secretary), Danghi Mangam (Education Secretary) and Techi Doni (AGS Protocol).
Yesterday morning large number of Assam police and forest department officials destroyed Church and rostrum at Digalmukh village. They also injured those local citizens who tried to stop them. The eviction was carried out despite recent agreement between authorities of Sonitpur and East Kameng District to respect Supreme Court order in regards to boundary issue. Assam officials used bulldozer to raze down the church and rostrum. They further warned Arunachalee not to carry out any activity in the agriculture field located along the boundary, AAPSU said.
This incident comes days after Assam did not allow Panchayat election to take place at designated polling station, Hasse Russa village in Longding district. The AAPSU has strongly condemned both the incidents and termed such act by Assam as insult to Arunachalee citizen.
“Every time, we only hear Assam encroaching or carrying out eviction drive inside Arunachal territory. But Arunachalee people never do such act. The Assam authority violates the Supreme Court order for maintaining status quo. Our government should take notice of it and file contempt petition against Assam at apex court,” AAPSU stated. The union also questions the status of department of border affairs which was especially created to take care of border problems. “Recently when Assam officials came to Hasse Russa, it included border magistrate of Sivsagar district. We want to know what happened to our own department of border affairs. Is it still functioning or it no longer exist?, “ questioned AAPSU.
The union has appealed to the state government to immediately set up police outpost at Digalmukh village for the safety of local citizens. Meanwhile a team of AAPSU will soon visit Hasse Russa village to get first hand information of the problem.

ITANAGAR, May 21: Anshu Jamsenpa hailing from Monpa community of Bomdila area has set two world records in mountaineering field. In her first instance she climbed Mt Everest twice within ten days in May 2011 which made her to become first mother in the world to do. She is the mother of two children.
In her second instance she climbed Mt. Everest on 18 May 2013 for third times which makes her to become first women in the world to climb the peak, however it is yet to be confirmed from Nepal government. However, it is believed that she has already done this new world record because no such record has found in website of tourism department of Nepal government which deals with mountaineering and civil aviation industry that any woman from any part of the world who climbed Mt. Everest thrice. Moreover this site has records of Everesters who created world record and normal summiteers from 1953 to 2009 only. At the same time media like wikipedia and everesthistory.com do have various names of the Everesters who created world record in different category but they do have also no such record that any woman in the world who has created world record by climbing Everest thrice. Therefore there is every possibility of Anshu Jamsenpa to become first woman in the world to climb Mt. Everest thrice. On my enquiry over telephone on 20th May 2013 even a proprietor of a reputed mountaineering expedition agency in Khatmandu also said that he has also no knowledge at his personal level that any woman who climb Mt. Everest thrice. However he told that he will try to confirm it from concern authority. But her success infact put this strategically important state on top of the world in the mountaineering field. And it’s a truly proud moment for the people of Arunachal Pradesh in particular and India in general. I congratulate her and wish more success in her future endeavour.
It is also proud for people of India that this subcontinent has so far produce three women Everesters who created world record in mountaineering like Padmashree awardee Santosh Yadav of Haryana state who became first woman in the world to climb Mt. Everest twice within two years from May 1992 to May 1993, while Dicky Dolma of Himachal state who climb Mt. Everest at the age of 19 years in 1993 and who became youngest woman in the world to climb this peak, however her record might have broken in recent past but it is yet to confirm. Anshu Jamsenpa who holds two world records belongs to Indian subcontinent.
As far available records from 1953 to 2009 in the website of Nepal government there are 141 women Everesters in the world out of them hardly there are nine or ten women Everesters who created specific world record in different categories including three women from India namely Santosh Yadav, Dicky Dolma and Anshu Jamsenpa

Rubber gives livelihood to rural people in Tripura: Mohanan
ITANAGAR, May 21: Rubber has not only heralded a new era by making the state the second largest rubber produce of the country but has been giving livelihood to thousands of rural populace, said Rubber Board of India’s joint rubber production commissioner V Mohanan.
Mohanan spoke to agun adviser Pradeep Kumar Tuesday afternoon after a high level meeting with agun chairman Likha Maj, who is at Agartala as the emissary of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki to study the secret of rubber cultivation in the state.
“Rubber cultivation is going on very well in the state,” he said, adding since 1992 the RBI in cooperation with the state government had taken up block cultivation in 3,724.87 hectares of land.
The land is provided in cluster of 40 to 100 hectares for the local tribals and the cultivation is taken up as a joint venture of the RBI and Tripura government for the financial benefit to percolate down to the farmers in different forms , he informed.
Besides the block cultivating, the RBI also supports individual cultivation, who after plantation could apply to the RBI for assistance.
The RBI technical team inspects the fields, submits report for the individual to get annually as the inspection is an annual process, Mohanan disclosed.
Asked about the best variety of rubber clone, he named RRIM 600 recommended by the RBI for the entire North Eastern region, which in RBI experimentation station has yielded about 1,500 kg to 1,800 k per hectare annually, he said.

Wild elephants on the verge of extinction
A scientific project that ranks the world’s mammals by how Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) they are, says that the Indian wild elephant is among the 100 mammals on the verge of extinction.
The endangered list includes such extraordinary creatures like frogs that give birth through their skin and mammals that are immune to cyanide.
Most of these threatened species including the two mammals in India are not currently receiving the conservation they most certainly deserve, observes the study.

Poaching for ivory, and occasionally meat, continues to threaten wild populations, although reliable estimates of the number of elephants killed and the quantities of ivory and other body parts collected and traded are scarce.
Since only males have tusks, poaching has resulted in populations becoming skewed towards females. This has affected breeding rates and may lead to increased instances of inbreeding and decreased breeding success.

The China has every reason to claim arunachal as her territory. The event of history has given her this opportunity. Everybody is well informed on this history, so am not opening the history here. China will play Arunachal card whenever, she finds it appropriate in her foreign policy. The fact is every nation would do the same when it serves them well, including India.
India must understand this practical reality of foreign policy. And early solution must be pushed for, so that China does not take advantage of Arunachal card all the time in her dealing. But early solution will not come promptly. Meanwhile, Arunachal suffers in this tussle .The recent evidences are staple visa, blocking of loan from ADB for Arunachal by China & fear psychosis that prevails in the state whenever, tension arises at borders. Arunachal must not suffer for her no fault. To save Arunachal from unwarranted trouble India needs to follow a policy where no one is a loser. In this regards former MP Kiren Rijuju's suggestion is a temporary relief which cannot be discarded in totality, yet not the right option to choose.
Till the final solution of border is reached between the two Asian giant things will remain same. Arunachalees should feel secure and safe mentally. These can be done by developing the state like every other state in India in economy and defense, along with all positive factors.
The visit of Chinese premier to New Delhi offers us some hope.

Khonsa town battling water scarcity
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily I would like to highlight the water scarcity problem prevailing in Khonsa town. Khonsa the headquarter of Tirap, one of the oldest district headquarter of Arunachal Pradesh is inhabited by major tribes like Nocte and Tutsa. The town is facing acute scarcity of water. The district is abundantly blessed with perennial streams and rivers, yet the public of Khonsa Township are still fighting water scarcity. The elected representatives and public in general are least bothered about this issue. The water received through pipeline is just a bucket per day. People go to far streams and rivers to collect water. The problem on an end arises because the streams of Khonsa have become a dumping zone. Houses are crowded to the banks of the streams. There could have been sufficient water supply if the running streams were pollution free. Moreover, the representatives and the respective authorities seem very causal on the matter. Is there any sincere authority to check? Why does the water scarcity problem continue every year in Khonsa?
As water is most essential for every day-
Lastly I would like to request the inhabitants of Khonsa Township in general and the concern authority in particular that by considering this scenario, please look for the alternative ways for proper management of water in Khonsa.

Through the column of your daily esteemed I would like to ask a question to the police department about the SI civil police and IRBn whose recruitment process was supposed to be conducted in the month of January 2013. Already four months have passed but till today concern department has not provided any information publicly regarding the same. We had spent lots of money while filling up the form as exam fees, for Xerox, passport photos etc. So my question is if police department fail to conduct the interview then who will take responsibility to refund the money taken by the said department in the name of examination fee. So I request the police department to conduct the recruitment process immediately as much as possible.

Through your column I would like to express my feeling and give my congratulation to the people of Kurung Kumey. Functioning of the Sub Treasury Office at Koloriang must have brought cheers to people of Kurung Kumey in general and government staffs in particular. When I was posted at Koloriang it was one of the most annoying duty to go Ziro for treasury matter and spending hard earn bucks. Opening of treasury must have certainly lessened the burden of Revenue department who are infact bound to transact every day. Applause is deserved who is behind the materializing of long pending needs of opening of the STO Koloriang.
